Bubber has never understood that some people can hate others solely because of their ethnic origins or religious beliefs. Bubber, who is half Jewish himself, moves into the extreme right and comes close to both DNSB's new chairman and a Nazi demonstration in Germany. He has to listen to attitudes like "the Holocaust was just a trifle" and "you who are half Jewish should not be in this country at all", Bubber has to cross all boundaries to go on this journey in the attempt to understand the hatred.
