Rosemary and Laura are called to Lyvedon manor to restore the now derelict wall gardens by the request of the garden's owner Martin Frazer.
As a source of cheap labor to assisst Rosemary and Laura work on the gardens, Martin enlists the help of a group of inmates from the local prison.
Initially Rosemary is suspicious of working with prisoners but soon gets used to it, but a greater shock awaits her when she witnesses Martin's odd cousin Jim jumping into the local fast flowing river, killing himself.
Soon after at the local market, Rosemary is shocked to see Jim walking around, despite his body being found and identified by Martin himself.
