Step into the secretive world of the French Foreign Legion.
Venture into the secretive world of the French Foreign Legion and discover what it takes to become a soldier in one of the world’s toughest and most famous fighting forces. This three-part series meets the legionnaires – made up of men from many countries – and follows them from France to Africa as they battle through gruelling training regimes, undertake tricky peacekeeping missions and make preparations for the annual Camerone Day, a celebration of the Legion’s most heroic battle.
In the first episode we meet of the legionnaires of the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment in Nimes. We get a closer look at them training, in the regiment parading and what life is like in the barracks. We meet legionnaires and hear their view on being in the Legion and also hear about their backgrounds. Through narration and footage (including archive) of the Legion in action, find out what the Legion and legionnaires do and what type of people they are. We see the legionnaires in France, in Ivory Coast on a peacekeeping mission and in Djibouti where the Legion has its toughest combat training centre.
The second episode follows one of the strongest Legion traditions when the companies of the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment in Nimes compete in the annual competition of building the best Christmas crib. We follow Adjudant Raubenheimer from England who is building the crib for the 3rd Company. The General of the Legion - General Pichot de Champfleury - is paying a visit to the regiment in Nimes to see the progress of the Christmas crib building. In Djibouti, Africa, the snipers are training, legionnaires are up for the final exercise of their combat training, and a hindrance track must be passed both during the day and during the night.
