Four cooks must impress judges John Torode and Donal Skehan to win just one semi-final place. Their first test is to create their ultimate salad and dressing from a range of mystery ingredients in just 50 minutes. The contestants are given three trays of different ingredients to choose from. One for the salad base, one with meat and fish and one with extra ingredients they may like to add. First, John and Donal go head to head to show viewers at home their version of the perfect salad. Then it's the turn of the young gastronomes - will the contestants be able to show creativity, imagination and flair?
Then the four contestants have one hour to cook their own favourites in an attempt to impress and grab that all-important semi-final place. With dishes including smoky mackerel pate, ackee and saltfish quiche and a citrus lassi on the menu, the judges face a deliciously difficult decision.
