Ethel and Martin were both beaten in the council elections by a Frenchman. Roger McGough is moving into No 37 down the street and is giving poetry tips as well as putting ups shelves at 73. Kathy Tayler gives Ethel and Hazel some fencing lessons. With Harry gone, Hazel has arranged for Dead or Alive to be the musical guests into the cellar. Meanwhile Martin has got a terrible secret. Ethel fails to get a cup of tea upstairs to a waiting Fred. Simon Bates comes over to show a film about drag racing and faces African musician Nana Kwame Tsiboe in the Sandwhich Quiz.
