The nurses station is burgled during the night watch. Marijke Rodenburg, who has been carrying a child for her sister and brother in law, gives birth prematurely. But when the child turns out to be sickly, her sister, who has managed to get pregnant herself, has second thoughts about the baby. Theo Dekker refuses to give up on his comatose wife or even to leave her side, even though everyone else thinks she will never recover.
