Ademir receives payment for a service. Dulce presents her two great-granddaughters with an amulet. Maria meets Amadeu. Maria and Amadeu discover that their families are rivals. With the help of the Priest, Maria suggests a peace pact to the families to marry Amadeu. Maria and Amadeu set a wedding date and love each other. The two families meet at the church. Amadeu is shot at the altar and Maria despairs.
