Series 312: Collections Theme Notes This series of Play School is all about collections. Encouraging young children to have their own collections enables them to develop many important skills. Children sharpen their literacy and numeracy as they label, classify, sort and order the items in their collections. Their observation and language skills are further developed as they seek out items to add and engage others as they describe the collection. Collections do not have to be expensive or bought from a store. They can simply be a child’s artwork or leaves from the garden. Valuing and displaying the items in a collection can also be a source of pride and self confidence. Join us as we find out what’s in the pockets of the Collections Coat, visit the Play School Collections Museum and see a performance of rock n roll band, Bearosmith! We also look through the windows as some children show us their own collections – from paper planes, rocks and fossils to artwork, baby dolls and feathers. Collect away!
