August 1944. The Soviet Department of Military Counterespionage is trying to identify an enemy secret agent. The search is being conducted in Vinnytsya, an area in Ukraine close to Hitler's former headquarters. There is an atmosphere of unease and menace in the area, and at the bottom of the lake lie the corpses of hundreds of soldiers.
