Jurnee Diana Smollett began her career as a child actress appearing on television sitcoms such as On Our Own, Cosby and Full House. She gained greater recognition with her roles as Jess Merriweather in Friday Night Lights, Nicole Wright in True Blood, Rosalee in Underground and most recently as Leti Lewin in Lovecraft Country. On film she is known for Eve's Bayou (1997), The Great Debaters (2007), Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor (2013, Spiderhead (2022) and The Burial (2023)
