In the remote village of Schneeleiten, the scientist Marie Zimmermann wants to realize an ambitious project: She plans to create a genetic family tree of Schneeleiten in order to document the origin and mix of the Tyrolean population in an exemplary way. To do this, she needs the DNA of as many villagers as possible, but encounters fierce resistance. Above all, Franz Wildauer, a harp maker, and Lutz Egger, who was convicted of manslaughter in his younger years and is known as an "outsider", defend themselves vehemently. When the scientist is found murdered, not only Egger and Wildauer are suspects, but the entire village is targeted by the SOKO. Did Marie Zimmermann possibly choose Schneeleiten for her research project for personal reasons?
