The year is 1905. Norway leaves the union with Sweden as a result of King Oscar II refusing for the third time to sanction the law on a separate Norwegian consulate. The reaction in Sweden becomes violent, and there are threats of force. "There is a war raging in the Swedish Riksdag", as King Oscar puts it.
