Discover the tragic fate of the Gueules Cassées, the martyrs of the First World War. Between 1914 and 1918, the First World War left millions of people wounded, including more than four million in France alone. On the battlefields, artillery killed and maimed indiscriminately. The soldiers, torn to pieces or disfigured, were transported behind the front lines for treatment. In military hospitals, surgeons pushed the boundaries of science to restore the dignity of these soldiers, crushed by war.
