The school's basketball team prepares for the Tarda 250th anniversary game. Arthur is the team captain and doesn't want Max to play. He and his gang use lazy tricks to give him no chance of getting the ball. As so often before, Max stands in front of his class as a failure. No wonder he wants nothing more than his father's return from the expedition. Together with Grandma Adele and his sister Monika, he picks him up from the airport. But Max is disappointed that his father first drives to the physics institute with his mysterious find, the sun lance. There, Matthäus meets with his boss, Dr. Gordon, lack of understanding of mysterious objects. Philipp Weller, a friend who works in the listening station of the space research institute, is all the more enthusiastic. He reports on the strong signals he was able to receive from the Andes, in Chile. Matthew lets him in on the secret of the sun lance.
