Venâncio, embarrassed by Maria Santa's supposed pregnancy, announces that they will leave home. José Inocêncio plans to marry Maria Santa. Venâncio leaves, taking Quitéria and Maria Santa. José Inocêncio's entourage arrives and is received with celebration. Venâncio leaves Maria Santa at Jacutinga's house. Quitéria tries to intervene, but ends up complying with her husband.
