Taped on October 5, 1980--Allen Ludden's birthday, Password Plus cast and crew unknowingly experience their final week of shows with the legendary Ludden as host. A few days later while vacationing with his wife in Monterey, California, Ludden, already suffering from stomach cancer, fell ill and would never fully recover. Allen Ludden would die eight months later on June 9, 1981.
