In the last of the heats, four cooks must impress judges John Torode and Donal Skehan to win the last semi-final place. Their first test is to create their ultimate soup and soda bread from a range of mystery ingredients in just 50 minutes. The contestants are given four trays of different ingredients to choose from - one for the soda bread, one with vegetables to make the soup base, another with fish, pasta and lentils and one for the garnish. First, John and Donal go head to head to show viewers at home their version of the perfect soup. Then it's the turn of the young gastronomes - will the contestants be able to show creativity, imagination and flair?
The four contestants then have one hour to cook their own favourites in an attempt to impress and win that all-important last semi-final place. With dishes including calves' liver, diet cola chicken and gorgonzola figs to taste, the judges face a delicious dilemma.
