Yuina, a high school student, gives birth prematurely at the Togo Memorial Hospital with the baby having necrotic enteritis. According to the hospital's policy, surgery cannot be performed if the chances of survival is bleak, so the doctors opt for conservative treatment. The baby's condition worsens and Shindo suggests a surgery, but as a minor, Yuina can't sign the surgery consent form, and her mom refuses to sign it either.
