One year in the second league - the Werder documentary

Werder starts in the 2nd league. New coach Markus Anfang and managing director Frank Baumann face a huge task: the squad is not yet in place, no player is unavailable for sale. Meanwhile, fans expect immediate success. But the team can't deliver. After the disastrous 1:4 against Paderborn, angry fans in the stadium chant: "Baumann out!"

Frank Baumann gets the top transfer: Marvin Ducksch moves to SV Werder Bremen. But the season is mixed: clear victories are followed by unnecessary defeats. On Deadline Day, Mitchell Weiser is transferred to the Weser at the last minute. Before the important North derby, the fans draw their conclusion: "Wasn't so bad after all." But afterwards, the traditional derby against HSV is lost.

Werder is somewhere in the middle of the table. The frustration is growing. After the defeat in Darmstadt, Niclas Füllkrug bursts his collar. The coaching staff discusses whether Füllkrug should be suspended. The knot then bursts against Sandhausen. The next opponent is fellow relegated Schalke. But on the morning of the game, Markus Anfang resigns. He had forged his vaccination certificate and was under investigation.

After the departure of Markus Anfang, the team is trained by two coaches in four days. It is not until a week later that Ole Werner finally arrives. The North German is the stark opposite of Markus Anfang from the Rhineland. Perhaps perfect for bringing calm to the club? The fans watch it all in disbelief from the outside: "It's going to take quite a while for me to process this."

Ole Werner gets to work - and hits the ground running. With the new coach and the likeable and successful one-two punch of Marvin Ducksch and Niclas Füllkrug, Werder starts the race to catch up and, with eight wins in a row, even moves to the top of the 2nd division. The environment is electrified and has its sights firmly set on promotion.

The final weeks of the season in the best 2nd division of all time will be dramatic. Numerous clubs are involved in the neck-and-neck race for promotion. Ole Werner and his team remain focused - and the decision on Bremen's resurgence will not be made until the last matchday.
