On a rainy summer day, fifth-grade elementary school girl Aoi Ishioka (Miyu Oshima) suddenly disappears on a rice field road where sunflowers are blooming. Kenichi Nara (Tsuyoshi Muro), an assistant inspector of the First Investigative Division, rushes to the scene, but finds Aoi's father, Masanori Ishioka (Ryuta Sato), who is desperately searching for her. Amid various speculations about whether it was a runaway, an accident, or even a kidnapping, Nara begins an investigation driven by a strong sense of mission. Behind his sense of mission, there is a sense of regret regarding his younger sister Mayuko (Hiraiwashi).
