Born Sheila Anne Syme Gash, Sheila Gish appeared primarily in stage productions, but also made television and film appearances, including The First Churchills, Brighton Belles, Crown Court and Love in a Cold Climate. Her film appearances include A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (1972), The Last Ten Days (1973), Quartet (1981), Merisairias (1996), and Mansfield Park (1999). In 2003 she lost her right eye to a cancerous tumour, but continued to perform wearing an eye patch
