The whole country is crying and nobody knows why until Bassie (Bas van Toor) and Adriaan (Aad van Toor) capture Joris (Hans Leendertse) who tries to spray their caravan with crying gas. This is all part of a plot by Professor Archibald Chagrijn (Paul van Gorcum) to banish laughing from the world. With help from Inspecteur Van der Steen (Dick Rienstra), Jeroen Vandersteen (Hans Otjes) and their new friend Robin the robot (Ina van Toor) they set out on a quest to stop the professor's evil plan.
