From there, follow the river to New Castle and it historic houses. To the south is Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware, protecting the approach to the capital. Inland at Newark is the University of Delaware. Continuing south is Dover and the International Speedway Track, as well as a large US Airforce Base. Turning towards the coast, take a look at the flocks of migrating birds heading south for the winter. At Lewes the ferries come and go across Delaware Bay to New Jersey, and just outside the town is Henlopen State Park and some military relics from World War II. This journey ends at the popular shopping and seaside resort of Rehoboth.
