A prominent investigative journalist dies during a stay in a Viennese hospital, supposedly of heart failure. In reality, however, the man, who was working on a book about the Austrian arms trade, was murdered by the nurse Fritz Posch. Posch was paid to do so by the private detective Bergmann and the former mercenary Schulz. In order to get rid of the annoying confidant, Bergmann and Schulz push Posch off a railway bridge a little later. A perfect plan - if it weren't for an eyewitness to the second murder. And if Posch hadn't leaked information to nurse Ines beforehand... Brandtner and his colleagues quickly establish a connection between the two murders. But then they get an unexpected adversary in the form of Krapp, an officer of the state police, who allegedly investigates Schweiger himself. Krapp unceremoniously relieves Brandtner of the case. Nevertheless, Brandtner continues to investigate and shortly afterwards is ambushed with Ines...
