Jean Cosmos' adaptation in two parts of Théophile Gautier's historical novel of cape and épée eponymous published in 1863. The adapter privileged the heroic aspect of the novel to the detriment of sentimental intrigue.At the beginning of the seventeenth century, a young baron, the last heir of Sigognac, lives melancholy and poorly in an abandoned castle. A troupe of traveling comedians interrupts its solitude. By friendship and taste of the unknown, he decides to follow them. With these picturesque, strange and gay characters he knows a lot of setbacks at the same time as a warm fraternity. Sigognac, hero turned comedian under the name of Captain Fracasse will live thrilling adventures on the roads of France.
