Transformation is always an essential component of a feature film. “A story is by definition change, otherwise you have no story,” says Martin Koolhoven. But quite a few films have transformation itself as a theme. Think of David Cronenberg's The Fly, in which Jeff Goldblum slowly turns into a fly. Or The Mask in which Jim Carrey becomes a green playboy: 'Smoking!'.
