Women make up the majority of the Brazilian population (50.77%) and are the main users of the Unified Health System (SUS). They attend health services for their own care, but above all to accompany children and other family members, the elderly, people with disabilities, neighbors and friends. They are also caregivers, not only for children or other family members, but also for people in the neighborhood and community. Women live longer than men, but fall ill more often. Is female vulnerability to certain diseases and causes of death more related to discrimination in society than to biological factors?
