Ibuki and Shima are called in to investigate a dead body found in the mountains. From the distinctive wounds and a cryptic note left at the crime scene, they conclude it must be the latest in a series of bizarre unsolved murders. But the case is assigned to another unit and Ibuki and Shima are relegated to a supporting role. Then they learn that the dead man had a prior criminal record and that Inspector Gamagori, Ibuki’s mentor, was responsible for his first conviction. They go to see Gamagori, who provides them with information that they think may lead them to the murderer…
