Sexplanations

I needed another good cry and it felt important to record and share those tears with you. I'm not embarrassed or in danger. I'm okay. I'm all sorts of human feelings and that will continue to be the case. I hope. Thank you for creating this space for me. I hope that you experience the same sense of shame-free love when you need a good cry too.

I'm trying educate in a world that needs sex education but fears allowing or supporting it. This is a commentary on that effort. I'm deeply grateful to those of you who invest in sex education either by commenting, watching, sharing, and or financially investing in the work. It means a lot.

This is the story of Sexplanations. This video was originally a speech for one of the most well-known talk series at one of the most prestigious schools in the world. I was invited to speak about “how to bring the field of sexuality closer to people, and the role that sex education can, or should, play in that process.” I reflected on my experiences teaching at a university and online, anecdotes for the woes and triumphs of my field.

I'm so glad to teach you how to use a speculum. Even if you don't apply the knowledge to actually using a one, you'll have more insight to sexuality, the experiences of others, and another marker of your ongoing curiosity.

This episode of Sexplanations is a "thoughts from places" style narrative in which Dr. Doe shares her experience with widespread bullying. It also includes a second story about how an earlier attempt to derail sex education led to increased access to sex education for a much larger audience.

Wrinkles and other marks of time aren’t often paired with sexuality in society so it is natural to struggle with aging and helpful to rediscover my body. In this episode of Sexplanations my friend Elvis helped me sort though this. By photographing me and holding my aging body in time and space he enabled me to see me through a new lens. He helped me increase visibility, connect with this unfamiliar aged Lindsey, and detach from social pressures to hide my changes or hibernate my sexuality.
