While training underground with the fangs of the Grou Dragon, Raiga is surprised when the fangs react to his body unexpectedly and Crow cuts down the fang to save him. Learning that the evil qi accumulated from his battles is beginning to manifest within him, as he had slain ninety-nine Horrors so far, Raiga departs with Mayuri to the Tower of Heroic Spirits, where he was bestowed the title of Garo. In the occasion, he reveals to Mayuri that his parents disappeared before him when he was a child and never heard of since then, but when he entered the tower to claim the title of Garo, he is informed that this could not be done, as his father is still alive and fighting in another world, but allowed it to be passed to his son anyway, giving him hope that he may eventually reunite with his parents some day. After purifying his body and retrieving a spare fang, Raiga returns with Mayuri when a Horror attacks them. During the battle, the fang is knocked from Raiga's hands, piercing a nearby sculpture, and alerting another Horror sealed there. Once the first Horror is defeated, Raiga and Mayuri return to the mansion and when the fang is replaced, Raiga is surrounded by a time-sopping barrier that freezes all around him except himself, when the Demon Beast Zaji appears to kill him. After defeating Zaji once, Raiga and Mayuri reunite with Gonza, when Zaji appears once again, claiming that he will not give up until claiming Raiga's life. Raiga's battle with Zaji drags on to an alternate dimension summoned by him, where Raiga has a vision of a Garo from the past, who reveals to not be his father, and with the previous Horror slain Raiga attained the mark of one hundred Horror killed, now able to summon Gōten, despite having not passed by the trial of darkness, although the Garo claims that his current battle will suffice as requirement. Upon knowing this, Raiga summons Gōten and uses it to defeat Zaji for good, returning home and promising to become stronger for the sake of
