• Tip Time. Want to send out that Word document, but not the changes or other information that might be attached to the file? Scott Asnault has a quick tip to remove all that data in a flash.
• Benchmarking - What is it and how do you do it? It's an awful big question, but the gist of it is this. Benchmarking is when you evaluate and compare the performance of things. Let's say you're benchmarking a hard drive. You'll use software designed for that purpose that measures the read and write speed, access latency, and so on. You might copy a large file to it and time how long it takes. To benchmark a graphics card, you might run a graphics-intensive game and see how many frames per second you get (how smoothly the game runs). Then you do the same thing with another piece of hardware, using the exact same parameters, keeping everything exactly the same except for the one piece of hardware you're testing. The numbers you get can vary widely, depending on what you're testing. The key is to make sure you're running all tests the same way each time, keeping the test setup as similar as possible, and that you present the results in a way that's easy to understand.
• We have a viewer question from Jake:
• I would like to upgrade my PCs CPU to a Core 2 Duo from a Pentium D can I just pick any Intel CPU off a shelf or is there more to it?
