• Microsoft Vista, the replacement for Windows XP, is here.
• We've got a grab bag o' info to help you decide if you should upgrade or wait... or go with OS X.
• PCMag gives Vista a 3.5 out of 5
• Most folks should buy it pre-installed on your next PC. You probably don't have a choice if you're buying from a big system maker.
• It does have some shiny new features... Patrick's fave is the intergrated search. Robert loves the eye candy.
• Vista Home Basic sucks... don't pay to upgrade to it.
• OEM Vista can only work with one motherboard? Let's slash a few Vista OEM edition lies. (And, yup, Robert's right: retail copy of Vista come w/ both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.)
• Vista's install is awesome. Pretty much painless. (Unless you've got the rare bits of hardware w/ no driver support... Or the not so rare: Creative XFi 5.1 support and Intel 5.1 audio drivers come to mind... darn those redesigned audio bits in Vista!)
• Run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor before you buy a copy of Vista!
• And, darn it, make sure you back up everything you need on your system whether your do a clean install or 'upgrade in place.'
• ExtremeTech's chief Loyd case took some time to talk to us about hardware issues in Vista... DX 10 gaming and choosing between 32 and 64 bit editions.
• Tons of good info if you're running Vista now, or just thinking about it over at PCMag.com
