Is Chip from Beauty and the Beast an Orphan? (3x18)

Beauty and the Beast the animated film by Disney first came out in 1991. Now, in 17, we're getting a full length live action movie starring Emma Watson. But one thing still doesn't quite add up from the original film - Chip, our favorite little teacup doesn't quite resemble Mrs. Potts when they turn back into their human forms. Does this mean Chip is actually adopted??
