My Story

Trixie and Daddy Olly go on a journey of discovery to find out what life was like for a ship's boy nearly 500 years ago. Trixie and Olly dress up in clothes from that time and together they find out about a boy called Francis Drake, who became a famous sailor when he grew up. Trixie and Olly try out the types of food that sailors would have eaten, including some very hard ship's biscuits! Then, they discover why sailors had to be good at sewing. Together they visit a big ship just like the one Francis went on and find out all about the sorts of jobs a ship's boy had to do. Finally, they go looking for treasure!

Finley and Grandad Laurence journey back around 350 years to find out what life was like for a child during the time of the Great Fire of London. Together they dress up in clothes from the time and learn about a boy called William Taswell who wrote a diary about the Great Fire. Finley and Grandad Laurence play some fun games that William might have played with his school friends, and together they discover how the Great Fire started, why it spread across London and how people warned each other about it. Finally they discover how William and his friends helped put the fire out, and why a big fire like that can never happen again.

Mummy Nicola takes Kimaya on a journey of discovery to find out what life was like for an Anglo-Saxon child 1500 years ago. They dress up in clothes from the time to learn about a boy called Stedman, whose family were Anglo-Saxon farmers. Together they discover what life was like for Stedman - what his house looked like, the language he spoke, the food he would have grown and eaten, and the jobs he would do to help his family. Finally, at the end of a busy day, Kimaya and Mummy enjoy food and games with the other Anglo-Saxon villagers.

Leon and Gogo Thabby go back 300 years to discover what life was like for a child living as a servant boy in a grand castle. Leon and Gogo Thabby dress up in fancy clothes and Thabby takes them to a special place to learn about a boy called Scipio, who came to Scotland from Africa. Together, they find out about the jobs Scipio would have done in the castle, the food he would have eaten, the music he would have heard and the new skills he learned. They discover that life in Scotland was very different from Scipio's life in Africa.

Mummy Emma takes Oscar on a journey of discovery to find out what life was like for a child who was ill during Victorian times. Dressing up in clothes of the time they find out about two little girls, Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale, who became very well-known when they grew up for treating people who were ill. Together, Mummy Emma and Oscar learn about what people did when they couldn't afford to go to the doctor's. They discover how to make a homemade remedy like Mary Seacole and find out why it was so hard to keep clean in Victorian times. Finally, Oscar experiences what a Florence Nightingale type of hospital would have been like for a child patient and plays some games to keep him entertained.
