On their way back, Burton and the others find a sign on the road leading to a nearby village that reads, “Those who can defeat the serpent will be rewarded.” The group heads to the said village to assist in defeating the serpent. According to the mayor, the serpent lives within the bottomless swamp, but when the villagers attempted to cover up the swamp, strange occurrences began happening within the village, and yet the serpent was nowhere to be seen.
