Weirdbeard has Tom and Jerry as stoways on his pirate ship. When he finds them, he orders them to walk the plank. But since he has no real crew, he changes his mind, and makes Tom and Jerry compete for the job of cabin boy. Because whoever doesn't get the job has to walk the plank.
