Jack sets up a lie detector test with con artist Desiree to strategize against Hawk. They brainstorm ways to outsmart him, realizing they need to think like a con to catch a con. Alice and Desiree manipulate Hawk into visiting Jennifer at her penthouse under the guise of checking on her.
When Hawk arrives, Jennifer plays along with their trap, pretending Jack has left her and that she saw him packing a gun. Hawk reads Jennifer's diary, which mentions the weapon, confirming his suspicions that Jack is dangerous. After Hawk leaves, Jennifer and Jack celebrate their successful con. Jennifer apologizes for ever doubting Jack, and they reconcile, embracing as a united front.
However, the plan backfires dangerously. Hawk, now believing Jack is a genuine threat, heads to the pier where he loads bullets into his gun, preparing for a deadly confrontation. Jack and Jennifer remain unaware of the lethal danger they've created.
