In Mexico, Roman and John search Mayan ruins for ancient codices hidden in castle catacombs. They discover a tunnel and locate the codices, but Lawrence and Gretchen corner them with guns, attempting to strike an alliance. Bo arrives to warn them it's a trap, but Stefano ”alive and from John's past ”emerges and orders everyone to surrender their weapons. Stefano reveals he holds the key to John's mysterious past and demands the codices in exchange.
Meanwhile, Carly finds Victor chained in a cave. Despite his pleas, she initially refuses to help until she relents and frees him, warning him not to betray her. She's called police to resolve the situation.
Back at camp, Marlena and Isabella discuss John. Isabella suddenly becomes ill from the heat and faints, causing Marlena concern. The women eventually settle their differences.
