Evidence against Kim mysteriously disappears, initially seeming like good news, but complications arise. Steve confesses to Kayla that he stole it to help Kim. Though Kayla urges him to return it, Steve sneaks back into the police station in disguise to replace the evidence but gets caught by officers near the evidence room.
Roman faces accusations from Abe and the DA that he stole the evidence to protect Kim, damaging their friendship. Shane supports Kim through the ordeal while Gillian confronts him about his lingering feelings for her. When the evidence reappears and the hearing is rescheduled, Roman calls Kayla to his office and presents Steve as the culprit. When Roman asks if Kayla knows Steve took and returned the evidence, she denies it to protect him but Roman books Steve for resisting an officer anyway, leaving Kayla horrified as Steve is arrested.
