You've surely seen geographic profiling in some movie or series, but perhaps you're not familiar with the actual term. A very simple and objective definition is found in Chapter 6 of the guide Mapping Crime: Principle and Practice by researcher Keith Harries, made for the US Department of Justice: "Geographic profiling is an investigative methodology that uses the location of a connected series of crimes to determine the most likely area in which an offender lives".
