Victor Chevasse, the roadman from Valerande-les-Chantelle, is interviewed for a report on the Chaîne des Puys. While he plays his role as an ambassador for the rural world wonderfully, he also evokes his loneliness, as he has been a widower and single for many years. But then Nathalie arrives in Valerande, a city car as bubbly as she is blundering, who could well turn her life upside down. In the village, people are happy for Victor but some, more suspicious and a little jealous, wonder if this newcomer is as honest as she seems. The doc and the vet will have their work cut out to extinguish the burning embers of a winter season that is much hotter than the others.
