Genetics (6x41)
Data di messa in onda: Ott 11, 2022
Why are your nostrils a copy of your uncle's? An episode dealing with the biography and times of Gregor Mendel, the monk who founded genetics, and revealed one of the most important mysteries of biology: Why do we look like our parents? How are traits passed from one generation to the next? How can this process continue in this way without interruption over thousands of years. The episode relies on two parallel lines, a narration of the events of the life of Mendel, the reclusive monk who conducts his experiments in a monastery far from urbanization, with all his preoccupation, impartiality and perseverance, to finally come up with an impressive set of rules that preceded his era, which are considered the basis of biology as we know it now. The second line is the scientific experiments he conducted on the pea plant. And how, by identifying a group of pea traits, he was able to trace the way in which these traits are passed down through generations.
