Wokulski, at all costs, wishes to win Izabela’s favor. He even decides to sell the shop. Ignacy Rzecki records in his memoir two events that stirred public opinion, both connected with the sale of the Łęcki tenement to Baroness Krzeszowska. The new owner of the house brought lawsuits against her former tenants — the students and Mrs. Stawska. She accused Mrs. Stawska of stealing a doll. A court hearing was held, during which the baroness was ridiculed.
