When a corpse is discovered in the citadel of Bitche in Lorraine, with a crystal chess piece at its side, Lieutenant Nicolas Muller is dispatched to the spot. The latter, himself from the region, is struggling to conduct his investigation since the whole affair seems to lead to a crystal factory that he knows all too well: that of his family. As the list of victims grows, Muller's father and sister become more and more suspicious.
