Twenty years ago, Great Britain handed over sovereignty over Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China. What has become of the former crown jewel of the British Empire, the bastion of capitalism in East Asia? During the Cold War, Hong Kong was a showcase for the West in the middle of Communist China. Today and for the next 30 years, it has the status of a special administrative zone and is becoming increasingly integrated into the new China, which has committed itself to globalisation and is becoming an economic power.
