Three weeks since they last docked at a Federation space station, the USS Sally Ride arrives at Starbase 138 for crew transfers and downtime. After they depart the starbase, Starfleet orders the ship to Deep Space 5 for upgrades to their weapons and shields. The ship is waylaid when they receive a distress call from a Federation science facility on Sitrien 7.
