Several guys from all over Italy are called up for obligatory military service. Rocco Melloni, Gianpiero Montini, Antonio Scibetta, Gabriele Serra, Sesto Cardarelli and Mario Bertolazzi. After the first month of training in Trieste, they reach the barracks in Castelvecchio d’Adige, where they are stationed with Lieutenant Ulderico Dell’Anno and the fearsome sergeant Roberto Scherone.
