An arson attack on a company in Magdeburg kills the wife of the junior manager. Only a few hours later, the body of an accountant is discovered in a hotel in Rostock. At the beginning of the investigation, the commissioners in Magdeburg and Rostock have no idea that there is a connection between the two acts and that they are about to solve a case whose origins go back to the time of political and economic upheaval in East Germany in the early 1990s.
