At the apartment where Shukichi attends shogi study sessions, Genda Yasukiyo, one of the group's members, is murdered. The home of former study group member Kishimoto Yuhei catches fire, and his body is found inside. Meanwhile, Shukichi seems to have noticed a clue to the culprit's identity and is kidnapped. Conan meets up with Akai, and together they go to rescue Shukichi.
