At the apartment where Shukichi attends shogi study sessions, one of its members Genda Yasukiyo is murdered. The home of former study group member Kishida Yuhei catches fire, and his body is found inside. Meanwhile, Shukichi appears to have noticed something related to the identity of the culprit and is kidnapped. Conan meets up with Akai, and together they go to rescue Shukichi.
